Dawn of the Planet of the Apes Trailer

When Rise of the Planet of the Apes came out in 2011 it represented not just the biggest surprise hit of the year, but also the next step in the evolution of hyper real CGI on a large scale.

And so history looks about to repeat itself with Matt Reeves’ follow up, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. This first full length trailer is full of brooding, tension and a massive sense of scale, taking place 10 years after the original film. Caesar and his army have made a home for themselves away from humans, high up in the trees, but a chance discovery by a wandering man throws both civilizations into chaos.

There’s so much to love in this trailer. Gary Oldman is on top scenery chewing form playing a character that looks and sounds like Commissioner Gordon’s evil twin. And the apes….just astonishing. Both in look and sound the execution of these creations is truly next level stuff. That shot of the apes marching into the city is chilling, and the final close of Caesar replete with war paint is instantly iconic.

Looks like this summer will belong to the simians.
