BABYMETAL – No actual babies, but lots of metal

What every mother thinks metal fans look like

I love coming across new sub genres in metal. Turisas were my way into Viking Metal and Nekrogoblikon paved the way for Goblin Metal to ascend through the ranks. Well thanks to Trev Poulsom at Invade TV I have now been introduced to a group called BABYMETAL, who despite sounding like a band name and a sub genre all at the same time, would fit more realistically into a sub genre I am coining as ‘Animetal’. For this is a Japanese group featuring a trio of lead singers dressed in anime getup and singing bubble-pop Japanese melodies over some of the most glam metal riffs you are ever likely to hear; thus Animetal.

You can catch the group at this year’s Sonisphere festival, which likely means there will be some small UK warmup dates beforehand, so if you fall in love with the band (you’re about to), keep your eyes peeled.

And now get ready for the perfect cocktail of The 5678s and Dimmu Borgir! I give you BABYMETAL

I know I know, amazing! So just to keep the good times going I thought we could finish with an airing of the always fun ‘No One Survives’ by Nekrogoblikon, which also happens to be one of the most gloriously pulpy videos of recent memory!

James is a movie obsessive with a particular love for scores and screenplays. He has written for numerous blogs, sites and cinemas and has been involved in several screenwriting projects. He can usually be found in front of a large plasma screen devouring Westerns, 80s pulp, Jimmy Stewart movies or anything by the Coens.
