The new poster for Avengers: Age of Ultron contained a few little tidbits of interesting info; Idris Elba and Hayley Atwell being 2 of them. But what stood out to me (aside from the horrible Photoshop job) was Danny Elfman’s name listed in the musical credits.
As we know Brian Tyler (who has become Marvel’s go-to-guy after Thor 2, Iron Man 3 and creating the official Marvel Fanfare) is scoring the film, but the credit block on the poster states “Additional Material by Danny Elfman.”
What could this be? Speculation has suggested that Spiderman may yet make a brief cameo in Age of Ultron and Elfman’s theme from Sam Raimi’s Spiderman film could be reprised. Others have mentioned a hark back to Ang Lee’s Hulk theme. But I’m entirely hopeful that he’s created something new and majestic for the Avengers.
Elfman musically redefined what Superhero scores could be with Batman in 1989, and it would be great to see him return to the genre with the mythical flare he laces through all his scores.
And there’s always the hope that he could’ve reformed Oingo Boingo and recorded an original song for the soundtrack. That would be something else.
Time will tell.
