That’s right, after years spent in the clutches of Fox, the rights to making a Matt Murdock movie are now back in the loving grasp of Marvel.
This was confirmed by Marvel studios head honcho Kevin Feige, who answered a direct question about whether Marvel now owned the property with a simple “yes”.
So who knows where this might now lead in terms of the next cinematic Daredevil iteration. Will he be introduced in Marvel’s phase 3 following Avengers 2, or will we see him appear in a standalone picture, or even a TV show?
Last year, when Fox were fighting to make a Daredevil movie whilst they still could, Joe Carnahan (The Grey, Smokin’ Aces, The A-Team) cut together a pretty great sizzle reel of other movies that conveyed the look he would go for should he get the job:
Obviously that never came to be, but I’d say why not call Carnahan back? A standalone, 70s gritty crime thriller would suit this character down to the ground.
But hey, who am I to make suggestions to Marvel. They seem to know exactly what they’re doing with every silver screen venture so far. So I’ll trust that whatever happens will be the right thing.
Welcome home Mr Murdock!
