Ghostbusters – The 2016 Crew Arrive

So the trailer has landed for Paul Feig’s reboot of our beloved Ghostbusters. The property that since reboots became a thing, has had us shivering with anxiety; probably the only film from my youth that would cause me to throw my toys out of the pram and scream ‘you ruined my childhood’ if they messed it up.

Well, after some months of Social Media hatred directed at Feig for his decision to cast women as the new Ghostbusters, the haters can (hopefully) be silenced and the worriers (like me) sated by a trailer that really promises a great deal.

Here it is:

I love the modernised aesthetic of the ghosts, love the old equipment given a nice new look but an old familiar proton charged feel, love the nods to the original and the fact that it offers new things for a very different audience. Oh and is it just me or does the new HQ look like Jackie Chan’s uncle’s store from Rumble in the Bronx?

A few of the gags fall flat. There’s a little too much reliance on the awkward humour that is prevalent in the Apatow generation of comedians/comedy. But there’s plenty of great stuff too. And I, for one, am now hugely excited for the summer. My mind is open and I’m ready to accept the next generation of deadbeat scientists.

Oh yeah, and Slimer’s in there too. Great stuff. Can’t wait for the other cameos.

James is a movie obsessive with a particular love for scores and screenplays. He has written for numerous blogs, sites and cinemas and has been involved in several screenwriting projects. He can usually be found in front of a large plasma screen devouring Westerns, 80s pulp, Jimmy Stewart movies or anything by the Coens.
