Way way back in December 2013, we posted an article about a Kickstarter campaign for a short film that really stood out. It was Kung Fury and even back then it was obvious it was going to be awesome.
I’m happy to report the film met and exceeded its target and is now online, in full, for free!!! Set yourself thirty minutes aside and prepare to smile like a goofy idiot. Time travel, kung fu and Hitler. What more could you want?
There are so many films trying to recapture the iconography of the 80s, but this is the first of its kind which I find to have succeeded entirely. Yeah there’s some very obvious exploitation humour that falls a bit flat, but you can’t deny the insane level of inventiveness soaking every frame. Even if you only had the first few minutes with the arcade machine and his middle-finger-to-the-world-equipped-with-weapon massacre, that would be enough. But then there’s Hitler and Thor and a theme tune from David Hasselhoff (which I have to confess I love without even the slightest hint of irony).
