The Monster Squad meets the Suicide Squad

The Monster Squad is one of the quintessential 80s kids movies, and somehow I missed it entirely when I was growing up. I’m not sure if that’s just because it didn’t get much press in the UK, but I know I’m not alone when I say I watched The Goonies a few hundred times and never even heard of The Monster Squad (fortunately I’ve since remedied this oversight).

And yet there’s a case for arguing Monster Squad is the better film, and stands up increasingly well as the years go by. What’s not to love about a group of plucky young guys taking on an invasion of the classic Universal monsters in small-town America?

Anywho, another plucky young individual has recut footage from The Monster Squad and used it to mashup the Suicide Squad trailer which came out a few weeks ago. The result is perfection, with editing cuts that not only mirror DC’s trailer, but which make sense in the narrative of Monster Squad as well.

Somebody get this guy a job editing for the big studios’ marketing departments.

Thanks to Birth.Movies.Death for bringing the clip to our attention.
