Many of cinema’s greatest fans are also would be filmmakers. I myself have turned my hand to several screenplays, and some day hope to see at least one of them become a completed movie.
One of the biggest setbacks for aspiring directors/actors/writers/editors etc is that the world of film seems so hard to break into; the most exclusive of clubs for which your name will most likely never grace the list. But despite the hardships and the failures, as with anything in life, the importance is to persist.
In fact this article is not just aimed at the wannabe stars of hollywood, but also the true film fans, because for the most avid of cineastes there are occasionally those low periods when we get jaded by a barrage of soulless blockbusters and feel like giving up on the silver screen all together.
But at those low points, those moments where you feel like throwing in the cinematic towel, whether as a filmmaker or a fan, remember that movies are made of magic. Take 3 minutes to watch the below video and remind yourself that there are thousands of people out there right now, living their dreams and creating film history. And in 10, 20, 30 years time it could be your set photos someone is turning into a montage, your written words being delivered by iconic actors and your stories changing how people perceive their own lives.
Cinema is magic. Don’t give up!
