Super Bowl 50 – The Movie Trailers

Yeah that’s right, I don’t watch sports for the sake of sport, I do it because movie studios love utilising mass audience spectacle events to debut exciting trailers for their tentpole products.

Historically the Super Bowl is the biggest of these events and as such attracts the most movie clips to whet our appetites for summer season. Super Bowl 50 was no exception. Amidst the traditional trailers there was even a fake advert for flights to fictional movie cities. See them all below:

Captain America: Civil War

It’s a short clip, but a great tonal indicator of what to expect come April, and honestly this looks like the kind of Avengers movie I was hoping for from Age of Ultron. The only downside is the whole ‘choose a side’ thing with #TeamIronMan and #TeamCap, which is all a bit Twilight.

The Jungle Book

John Favreau’s green screen retelling of the Disney classic just gets more impressive with every new clip. It’s great to finally hear the animals talk and I’m already predicting Idris Elba and Bill Murray will be firm fan favourites.

Batman vs Superman

As mentioned above, DC went a bit different for their clips, teaming with Turkish Airlines to produce fake advertisements for flights to Gotham City and Metropolis. It’s a bit of fun.

10 Cloverfield Lane

The sequel to Cloverfield which seems to have come out of nowhere (J.J Abrams mystery box working in full force) debuted a trailer full of claustrophobic panic followed by bright lights and the roar of a monster.

Jason Bourne

He’s back and now he fully knows who he is (didn’t he remember everything the last time?). Anywho, Matt Damon returns as the iconic character who can floor even the biggest warlord with a single punch. Nice left hook Damon.

Independence Day: Resurgence

Lots of things getting destroyed and Jeff Goldblum making astute observations on the nature of things. Yep it’s the sequel to Independence Day.

X-Men: Apocalypse

A little bit of new footage from Bryan Singer’s follow up to Days of Future Past shows Magneto getting upset about stuff and the ever growing roster of mutants using their powers for a couple of seconds each. Bit underwhelming really, but I’ll still be there on opening day.

So there you have it, quite the smorgasbord of Summer Blockbusters to salivate over. Which are you looking forward to the most? Let us know in the comments.

James is a movie obsessive with a particular love for scores and screenplays. He has written for numerous blogs, sites and cinemas and has been involved in several screenwriting projects. He can usually be found in front of a large plasma screen devouring Westerns, 80s pulp, Jimmy Stewart movies or anything by the Coens.
