The Force Awakens Behind the Scenes

Thank god for practical effects. With Mad Max and now The Force Awakens championing a return to all things tactile and real we’re seeing the true magic of filmmaking coming once again to the fore.

Testament to this is the new behind-the-scenes Star Wars: The Force Awakens footage which has just been unleashed at SDCC. People who make movies reliant upon CGI could never hope to make a clip as beautiful as this to promote their product. In-fact this footage, cut together in this way, has more of an impact than any trailer I’ve seen this year. Feast your eyes on the glory of cinema.

I don’t want to be the old fuddy-duddy who can’t move on from bygone eras, but there’s just something about seeing real sets, real creatures moving and real explosions that gets the heart pumping.

Fingers are well and truly crossed for J.J Abrams to knock this one out of the park.

James is a movie obsessive with a particular love for scores and screenplays. He has written for numerous blogs, sites and cinemas and has been involved in several screenwriting projects. He can usually be found in front of a large plasma screen devouring Westerns, 80s pulp, Jimmy Stewart movies or anything by the Coens.
