Potentially the most exciting news for upcoming filmmakers this year!
Legendary Entertainment and YouTube have partnered up to offer the chance of a lifetime. They have created ‘YouTube Space House of Horrors: A Legendary Halloween’, which will see Guillermo Del Toro advising YouTube users on how to create the perfect horror short, before then going on to select a winner who receives a development deal with Legendary!
Let that sink in for a moment, and then get your pens, pads, final draft and a DSLR at the ready.
Both companies have created specific ‘Spaces’; built sets and locations on which your film will be filmed, and from 22nd September these spaces will be available for use.
Each location has been designed to mirror some of Del Toro’s iconic visions, and include a gothic manor house, a haunted garden and a dusty attic with a hidden trapdoor. These spaces are based in Los Angeles, Tokyo, London and New York. And for YouTube channels that have at least 10,000 subscribers the facilities, including cameras, editing suite and lighting will be free to use.
The competition is open up to 27th October, whereupon Del Toro will select his favourites from each region and meet with the filmmakers for a creative consultation.
Best of luck to all who get involved. And if you need further info/inspiration, check out the below clip of Guillermo Del Toro himself providing an introduction to the contest. Halloween and Christmas has come early!
